At our Business Matters lunch on September 8 2025, keynote speaker, The Hon Steven Marshall, President of the American Australian Association, shared valuable insights and actionable tips for Queensland businesses to participate in the world’s largest economy, including:

• Be specific and focused when seeking out opportunities in the US as depth is more valuable than breadth. Start with one state, vertical, or project.

• Build your knowledge of US state and federal business laws and ensure you’re compliant. The best way to do this is with a presence on the ground – plus, people will appreciate a timely, local response.

• Make the most of business networks including Business Chamber Queensland and the American Australian Association as warm leads have much greater success than cold calls.

This conversation also demonstrated just how important partnerships are in ensuring businesses – both large and small – can capitalise on US opportunities, as well as those ahead in our home state.
