The state chamber of commerce welcomes the Queensland Government’s Commission of Inquiry into the CFMEU Queensland Branch to address structural and productivity pressures on the construction sector.

Business Chamber Queensland CEO Heidi Cooper said the Queensland construction sector would be responsible for delivering billions of dollars of infrastructure ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to address ongoing housing and infrastructure pressures on businesses and communities.

The Chamber is calling for the inquiry to focus on practical solutions that will improve productivity, reduce project delays, and ensure Queensland’s construction workforce can meet the demands of the current infrastructure pipeline.

“To meet the unprecedent demand for that growth infrastructure and maintain our standard of living and doing business, Queensland needs a construction industry and workforce that can reliably deliver the infrastructure pipeline,” Ms Cooper said.

“It must not be held back by outdated workplace laws and persistent productivity challenges.

“That’s why we support the Queensland Government’s inquiry and welcome the focus on addressing the structural issues affecting the construction sector.”
