When Better Hearing Australia Brisbane recently faced a period of significant organisational challenge, the not-for-profit turned to Business Chamber Queensland for support and guidance.
With a small team of staff, contractors and volunteer board directors, the organisation continued to deliver vital services to people with hearing loss across Queensland while navigating complex operational, governance and workplace challenges.
Chair and volunteer director Brett Hooper said access to expert advice and support came at a critical time for the organisation.
“We were able to utilise the expertise, guidance and experience of the Business Chamber Queensland team to help us work through a number of complex issues and make informed decisions for the future,” Mr Hooper said.
“As a small not-for-profit, we don’t have a dedicated HR team or workplace relations resources, so having access to experienced professionals who could guide us through unfamiliar processes was incredibly valuable.”
Business Chamber Queensland Workplace Relations Manager Ezra Pyers and his team worked closely with Better Hearing Australia Brisbane, providing support across a range of employment, governance and organisational matters.
“Because the organisation didn’t have an HR team, we were able to step in as a trusted business partner and provide practical advice and support where it was needed most,” Mr Pyers said.
For Better Hearing Australia Brisbane, the support proved invaluable and helped strengthen the organisation’s position moving forward.
“As a not-for-profit supporting people with hearing loss across Queensland, access to practical advice, resources and member support has provided real value to our organisation and Board,” Mr Hooper said.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr Hooper encourages other organisations to seek support when faced with complex challenges.
“Sometimes the issues you’re dealing with can feel overwhelming, particularly for smaller organisations with limited resources. Reaching out for expert support can make all the difference.
“The support we’ve received from Business Chamber Queensland has helped us navigate a difficult period and emerge stronger. We’re now focused on growing our services, strengthening our organisation and continuing to support people with hearing health needs across Queensland.”
